The Very First Group Workshop

On Saturday, April 28th, art educators from around the Joplin area gathered for a 4 hour workshop called Self2Synergy. The incomparable Ann Leach, founder of Life Preservers, first shared about her creative offerings for the teachers that include visual mapping, grief counseling, and personal stays at the Creative Cottage opening in May. http://lifepreserversgriefsupport.com/creativecottagejoplin/

Josie then led the teachers through the designing of a personal symbol, drawing the symbol on large black construction paper, cutting out and collaboratively installing the symbols, and finally drawing the installation, adding text and color. The workshop started with an individual idea, moved to a group composition where much negotiating and communication had to occur, then back to an individual and reflective drawing of the group's collective vision.

In the midst of the art-making, they took a lunch break at the local deli on the square, and continuously shared best practices and teacher wisdom throughout the workshop. The Beehive thanks these vital art teachers for their work with our K-12 kids, and expresses deep appreciation for breaking in the space as the very first group workshop. There will be more for them in coming months.
